The exhibition design for “Calder: Constellations” highlighted the artist’s exploration of space and perspective. Selldorf Architects created a tranquil space where Calder’s delicate, kinetic art became the focal point of interest. The gallery’s spiral staircase was fully encased to provide additional wall space and minimize distractions. New walls and rooms were added to enhance the gallery experience, allowing viewers to engage with the art both physically and visually. By manipulating and exaggerating the range of heights used to display the 36 sculptures, the artworks interacted with the space and each other while maintaining their unique identities.
