Farrand House opens at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington DC
Selldorf Architects, October 16, 2026
Farrand House, a new academic building at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, DC, has officially opened.
Farrand House joins the storied architectural legacy of Dumbarton Oaks, the Harvard University-affiliated research institute, library, museum, and garden located in Washington, DC, set amidst an historic garden designed by Beatrix Farrand. Designed by Selldorf Architects with landscape architecture by Reed Hilderband, the building provides Dumbarton Oaks with dedicated space for K-12 programming for the first time, along with a digital humanities lab, artist-in-residence studio, and gallery. Farrand House celebrates and extends the unique interdependent relationship of landscape, architecture, and art that is at the heart of Dumbarton Oaks.
