The University of Virginia Approves Design of the New Center for the Arts by Selldorf Architects, Diamond Schmitt, and VMDO

The University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors approved the design for the Center for the Arts in the Emmett-Ivy corridor, a new academic, cultural, and research district. The building will house the Tessa and Richard Ader Performing Arts Center, the Fralin Museum of Art, the Kluge-Ruhe Gallery, and the College of Arts & Sciences’ Department of Music. Selldorf Architects is leading the design of the art museum portion of the project and Diamond Schmitt is leading the performing arts spaces. VMDO Architects serves as the local partner. The new center will be a vibrant hub of creativity, performance, and learning for the entire campus and Charlottesville community. The Center for the Arts is expected to open in late 2029.
