Selldorf Architects

The renovation of this 5,000 sf duplex loft included the addition of a 1,200 sf penthouse library space, which opens onto a roof terrace. The program emphasizes the spaciousness of the residence; it includes a 30’ x 80’ central open loft space with 12’ high ceilings, large glass doors, 

and a steel staircase loosely inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s stair at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Three working fireplaces add warmth and scale, and a mixture of custom and vintage furnishings complement and contrast the simple architectural space. (Photos: John Coolidge)
