Skarstedt Residence

Sagaponack, New York

A short walk from the ocean, this summer retreat for an art collecting couple and their family is defined by a series of taught mahogany volumes. An entry court is formed by two symmetrical one-story volumes off of the main two-story bar building. Inside, a triple height atrium stair provides open views directly to the garden.

All of the home’s public spaces, including the living room, dining room, and kitchen, are organized along a spine with sliding glass walls that open fully to the pool and gardens. The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living is further enhanced by the shade-giving steel trellis with fabric canopy and mahogany brise-soleils.

The central stair brings filtered daylight and natural breezes into the home with operable windows and mahogany louvers. The upper level comprises a master suite, a den, and four guest rooms, with a rooftop terrace providing panoramic views.
