Hauser & Wirth New York
New York, New York
This newly constructed townhouse contains a gallery for contemporary art on the first two floors and a family residence on the remaining upper floors. Selldorf Architects’ intention was to produce an austere yet luxurious building. Outside, the double-height windows and bronze railings accentuate the building’s verticality. The stucco façade complements the
neighboring Beaux-Arts façades while also asserting its individuality with a style that evokes early modernism. Inside, elegantly proportioned spaces echo the refinement of the building envelope. (Photos: Todd Eberle,1, 2, 7-9; Nikolas Koenig, 3-6)
