Haunch of Venison New York
New York, New York
When Haunch of Venison chose to move from Rockefeller Center to Chelsea, the Christie's-owned gallery tasked Selldorf Architects with creating a fresh identity for their new downtown home. The renovation relocates the entrance to the east end of the façade, drawing it closer to the other galleries along West 21st Street, and adds two new glass and metal doors to the façade which span floor to ceiling.
Inside, circulation was reconfigured so that visitors first pass through a small entrance gallery before the main exhibition space is revealed. The 45’ x 38’ main gallery, which was previously defined by its dark wood and steel beam ceiling, was painted white to create a space that feels more cohesive and less distracting to the art.
