Oak Room & Bar

New York, New York

Selldorf Architects was responsible for the 2008 renovation of the Oak Room and Oak Bar at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The firm subtly infused this historic establishment with a contemporary design aesthetic, creating a space that is reminiscent of its original early 1900s era while providing a modern, vibrant atmosphere for elegant dining. In addition to designing all loose furniture, lighting, and accessories, Selldorf designed

a copper-clad private dining room and new cork flooring for the bar which matches the original linoleum floor. All old paneling, paintings, and molding have been restored to their original luster. The firm’s work met with full approval from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. (Photos: Todd Eberle, 1-4)
